iThoughtsHD: A Great iPad Mindmapping Experience
Back on August 17, 2010, I wrote a blog post about mindmapping on the iPad. In that post I featured iThoughts HD as the mindmapping app. At that time I had just purchased iThoughts HD and was exploring its many features.
Since then I’ve really come to value this impressive mindmapping app for the iPad. A particular benefit for me has been the ease of use in porting my MindManager mindmaps over to my iPad (and synchronizing them with DropBox). This has truly enabled me to be mobile with my mindmaps. Now my personal and business related mindmaps are accessible to me when I have my iPad (which is often).
Here’s how easy it is to create mindmaps with iThoughtsHD on the iPad:
Creating a map
- Tap on the + symbol (top left toolbar button)
- Enter a name for the map
- Tap on ‘Save’
- A new map will be created and opened.
Creating a topic (first way)
- Double tap on the background canvas and a new child (of the currently selected topic) will be created and edited.
- If the background is double tapped whilst a topic is being edited then a new sibling topic will be created.
Creating a topic (another way)
- Tap on one of the three + toolbar buttons (top right) to create a new parent, sibling or child topic
Editing an existing topic
- Double tap the topic (the keyboard will pop up.)
Changing the topic attributes (colour, shape etc.)
- Select the topic by tapping on it once.
- Tap on the ‘i’ toolbar button to display the inspector then tap on the appropriate tab (Icon, Colour, Shape, Task, Note)
Deleting a topic
- Select the topic by tapping on it once.
- Tap on the selected topic again to show the popup menu (Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete)
Cut/Copy/Paste
- Select the topic by tapping on it once.
- Tap on the selected topic again to show the popup menu (Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete)
Saving your changes
- No need…
- Every 20 seconds (or if the app is closed) the map is automatically saved
- Every 10 minutes (or if the app is closed) a complete ‘snapshot copy’ of the map is made. This can subsequently be recovered. The last 100 snapshots of each map are stored.
